What the letter says

The IRS issued this when the EIN was assigned. Variants (CP575A through CP575I) correspond to how the number was requested and the entity type. Banks, payroll providers, and state agencies often ask for a copy.

What to do

File it where you can find it. If the name or address is wrong, respond in writing so later notices go to the right place. If you lose it, the IRS can send a replacement confirmation (Letter 147C) on request by phone.

What to gather

  • The notice
  • Your Form SS-4 or online application confirmation

Write back

The Document cover letter tool builds the response in the order the IRS reads it. Fill it in, review it, print it, and send it with copies of the documents above and the notice stub on top.

Before you send anything
