This Privacy Policy explains how InterSearch Tax Solutions, Inc. ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you visit or use https://www.taxwriter.com (the "Site") and the tools and features we provide on it (the "Services").

By using the Site or Services, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Who we are

2. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect when you browse the Site, use the letter and calculator tools, submit a form, sign up for deadline reminders, apply to write or review, or otherwise interact with the Site.

It does not apply to third-party websites we link to, including IRS.gov, state revenue sites, and other sites operated by our publisher, each of which has its own privacy policy.

3. Information we collect

We collect information in three ways: information you provide, information collected automatically, and information from service providers.

3.1 Information you provide

  • Contact form: your name, email address, the page you are writing about, and your message.
  • Deadline reminders: your email address and the filer type you select (individual, self-employed, or business).
  • Writer or reviewer application: your name, email address, credential type, license state, website or profile link, and the topics you would like to cover.

3.2 Letter tools and calculator

The letter templates and the penalty calculator run entirely in your browser. What you type into them, including names, addresses, taxpayer identification numbers, amounts, and the text of any letter you generate, is never transmitted to us, stored by us, or seen by us. If you use the download or print functions, the file or printout is created on your device.

3.3 Information collected automatically

When you use the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect:

  • Device and usage data, such as IP address, browser type, device identifiers, operating system, timestamps, referring pages, pages viewed, and session activity.
  • Cookie and similar technology data. We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to measure how the Site is used. These tools set cookies and collect usage data when you visit. We have configured them so that advertising cookies and advertising identifiers are not set. You can limit or block cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser add-on. Blocking cookies does not affect the letter tools or calculator.

3.4 Information from service providers

We may receive information from providers that help operate the Site, such as our hosting and forms provider (delivery and spam-filtering signals), our analytics provider (aggregated reporting), and our email provider (delivery and unsubscribe status for deadline reminders).

4. How we use information

  • To respond to your message or accuracy report.
  • To send the deadline reminder emails you signed up for.
  • To review a writer or reviewer application and verify credentials with the issuing authority.
  • To operate, secure, debug, and improve the Site.
  • To understand which pages and tools are used, in aggregate.

Deadline reminder emails contain only the reminder and an unsubscribe link. We do not send marketing email.

5. How we share information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:

5.1 Service providers

Vendors that perform services for us, such as hosting and forms (Netlify), analytics (Google), and email delivery. They may use the information only to provide services to us.

5.2 Legal, safety, and compliance

We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect our rights or the rights of others, investigate fraud, or address security issues.

5.3 Business transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

6. Data retention

Form submissions are kept for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to you and maintain records of the Site's operation. Deadline reminder addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and reliability. Nothing entered into the letter tools or calculator is retained, because it never reaches us.

7. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information. The Site is served over HTTPS. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your choices

  • Deadline reminders: unsubscribe using the link in any reminder email.
  • Cookies and analytics: manage cookies in your browser settings, or use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Form submissions: ask us to delete what you have submitted through the contact form.

9. State privacy rights (U.S.)

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, request its deletion (subject to legal exceptions), request correction of inaccurate information, and opt out of certain processing. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

10. Children's privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

11. International users

If you access the Site from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and other locations where we or our service providers operate.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will post the updated policy with a new effective date.
