What the letter says
An IP PIN is a six-digit code that must accompany your return, which stops anyone else from filing under your number. This is the invitation.
What to do
Opt in through your online IRS account. Once enrolled you cannot easily opt out, and a return filed without the PIN is rejected, so keep the annual CP01A.
