Anyone can put letters after their name on the internet. Before a reviewer's credential appears on this site, we check it at the source.
What we check
- CPA. The license is looked up in the state board of accountancy's public register for the state the reviewer names. We record the license number and status. Inactive or lapsed licenses are not shown as CPA.
- Enrolled Agent. The IRS maintains a public directory of active enrolled agents. We confirm the name and status there.
- Attorney. The state bar's public member search. Active status only.
What we record
Credential, issuing state, the date we verified it, and the date we will check it again (annually). The verification date appears on the reviewer's profile.
What a review means
A reviewer has read the page and confirmed that the dates, rates, and form references match the primary sources on the date of review. It is not advice about anyone's situation and does not create a client relationship with the reviewer.
Staff review
Every page, reviewed or not, is checked by a second member of staff before publication and again at least annually. Pages that have not had an outside reviewer say nothing about one.
